About Us
Born from a Torn Jersey
Some stories begin with a grand plan. This one began with a needle, some thread, and a jersey that had seen better days.
Growing up in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, Sandile Xaba was not thinking about fashion. He was just a young man making do — taking a torn jersey and turning it into something intentional, adding patches to the elbows, reshaping what was broken into something that felt like his own. He did not know it then, but that small act of creation was the beginning of everything.
The Roots
Fashion was never foreign to Sandile's world. At home, there was a history of it — a grandmother whose hands knew fabric and form. But as a young man, he was not paying attention. Not yet. It is only in looking back that the thread becomes visible: the creativity that surrounded him, the eye for detail that was always there, waiting.
After high school, something shifted. The love he had been carrying without knowing it finally had a name. Fashion. Not just wearing it — making it. Shaping it. Using it to say something.
The Label
In 2020, Sandile Xaba established SX — a premium fashion label built on a clear and singular vision. Every collection is an exploration of structure, presence, and identity. The Monolith collection, for example, is not just clothing. It is architectural. It is intentional. It is the kind of garment that makes the person wearing it feel like they have arrived.
SX is rooted in the concept of Soft Power — the idea that true strength does not need to announce itself. That grace and confidence are not opposites. That a well-constructed garment can say everything a person needs it to say, without a single word.
The Mission
SX exists to prove that premium fashion can come from Newcastle. From KZN. From South Africa. Not as a footnote to global fashion — but as a voice in its own right.
Every piece is crafted with the same spirit as that first altered jersey: taking something raw and making it remarkable. Honouring the process. Respecting the craft. Building something that lasts.
The label is young. The vision is long. And the story is still being written.
